Notes: Beautiful location about 30 minutes south of La Paz. Great for motorcycles and tent camping (not suitable for vehicles unless you park outside the area). The bathrooms and showers were lovely and a great open kitchen area. We paid for four nights and got the fifth free. It was a great stay and easy walk into the small town nearby for supplies. We also went back and forth to La Paz to sort insurance, resupply at a large grocery store, and visit a bank.

Notes: Very quiet location with large grassy area for tent or vehicle camping. The kitchen is industrial size and wonderful for cooking. It has all amenities. We did some work on the motorcycles here and there is a nearby gas station that sold us fuel at local price. The owner speaks good English and is very helpful.

HOSTAL PACHAMAMA

Bathroom: Running water

Notes: We stayed here one month because one of our motorcycles broke down. The family who runs the hostal was very welcoming and they did not mind Mike working daily in the courtyard on the motorcycle. The wifi is slow and can be frustrating. The rooms are very clean and the communal kitchen is good. It is within a few blocks of the central market and it is close to the main square. We enjoyed our one-month stay.

Notes: This was a total splurge and it was lovely. The rooms are warm and the electrical shower heads mean a long shower without running out of hot water. It has very secure motorcycle parking. The breakfast buffet that is served in Minutemen Pizza (located in the hotel) was excellent (pancakes, homemade bread and jams, eggs, potatoes, fruit, yogurt, etc). The pizza at Minutemen is also good.

Notes: This was an excellent spot that caught the sun rise and had a stone wall built around a tent pad. It was also very protected from the wind. There are no services on this island and no other people. Stunning.

WILD CAMP near border – tent camping
Near Bolivia/Chile border, Bolivia

Cost: Free
Dates stayed: 16 October 2015
Bathroom: No

Electricity: No
Internet: No

Notes: This was a spot just off the road but down a nasty sand stretch that took us an hour the next day to get our motorcycles up (one person pushing and the other walking the bike). It was a good spot in that you couldn’t be seen from the road and it had some wind protection.
