HOTEL DE MONTANA, AGUAS DEL ARENAL

NIC-AC-03NIC-AC-04NIC-AC-05
GPS: 12.9984435, -85.8744542
Cost: 50USD per night per cabin that sleeps up to four and includes breakfast. We shared with our friend so the cost was split 3 ways.
Dates stayed: 4-5 March 2015
Pets allowed: Yes
Bathroom: Running water
Shower: Cold
Electricity: Yes
Internet: No
Kitchen: No
Restaurant: Yes as meals are available but they are taken family style. You do not order off a menu but they do ask about dietary restrictions.
Notes: This is a beautiful Finca owned by a German named Yurgi (he speaks Spanish, English, and German) and his wife Anabelle. They grow coffee and have lovely walking trails through the property. Meals are served in the communal area and the prices per meal were fair, average as to other Fincas (10USD dinner, 5USD lunch, and breakfast is included in room rate). There is always coffee to drink that is roasted on the property from their own beans. There is no room for tent camping. They have single, cheaper rooms as well.

HOTEL OASIS DEL CARIBE
El Rama, Nicaragua
NIC-AC-06
GPS: 12.161057, -84.220385
Cost: 600 Cordobas per night per room for two people with Aircon (fan-only rooms are less but there weren’t any available)
Dates stayed: 6 March 2015
Pets allowed: Unknown
Bathroom: Running water
Shower: Cold
Electricity: Yes
Internet: Yes
Kitchen: No
Restaurant: Yes
Notes: Hotel with secure parking in El Rama. The rooms are small and dark but as we arrived in the pouring rain we wanted to get inside as quickly as possible. The room was clean and the place was adequate. The town is a jumping off point for destinations along the Caribbean. Preferred the second place that we stayed in El Rama (Hotel Castillo Real)as the room was much bigger and had a small refrigerator.

HOTEL CASA ULRICH
Pearl Lagoon, Nicaragua
NIC-AC-07NIC-AC-08
Website: http://casaulrich.com
GPS: 12.345098, -83.671607
Cost: 40USD per night for a room to sleep three
Dates stayed: 7-10 March 2015
Pets allowed: Yes with permission that was received on site
Bathroom: Running water
Shower: Cold
Electricity: Yes
Internet: Yes in the restaurant
Kitchen: No
Restaurant: Yes
Notes: There is a good common/hang-out area by the back rooms (back building from restaurant) that provided a nice place to relax (we were here with a group and a couple rooms so this was very nice). There is secure parking for motorcycles but not much space for 4 wheel vehicles (but parking can be arranged nearby). The restaurant is very good but the service is very slow. The wifi in the restaurant was sporadic at best but there is a restaurant (Lobster Queen) nearby that has good wifi. At this time there doesn’t appear to be tent camping in Pearl Lagoon and it does rain nearly every day even in the dry season.

PUNTE DE CACQUIE – tent camping
Lake Apoyo, Nicaragua
NIC-AC-09NIC-AC-11NIC-AC-10
GPS: 11.942604, -86.041607
Cost: 5USD per person per night
Dates stayed: 12-14 March 2015
Pets allowed: Yes
Bathroom: Running water
Shower: Cold
Electricity: Yes
Internet: No
Kitchen: No
Restaurant: Yes
Notes: Stunning location on Lake Apoyo with lake access, docks, and places to relax. One tent area at the top near the parking area has a large tree that keeps you shaded all day. It is very quiet at night as most users are just day-users. During the weekdays we were often the only people here other than a couple caretakers. Fantastic lake for swimming. It is only place we found in Lake Apoyo for tent camping as every other place said no (even those that advertised camping).

Notes: There was secure motorcycle parking in the lobby. They also have private rooms and can include breakfast during your stay (it didn’t look worth the cost). There is a full kitchen, two courtyards one with pool and hot water showers. Really nice place. It was very clean. There is beautiful artwork throughout. We were able to get the okay for Ducati but the receptionist had to call the manager.

HACIENDA MERIDA – tent camping

Notes: This is a beautiful place to stay on the west side of Ometepe Island, which is good for how much wind you receive. We tent camped on the dock. The restaurant is very good value and tasty. This location was bitter sweet for us because this is where Ducati had his accident and died.
