Notes: We stayed here in 1993 and celebrated New Year’s Eve 1994 so it was great to be back to welcome in 2017. The place is as wonderful as our memories and the same people are still running the place. We stayed a week and were sad to leave. Nice bungalows and, because ours was near the main common area, the wifi reached to our hut. Hot water in winter (it is wood fire) and good food at the restaurant. Lots of caving and hiking and just general relaxing to be had here. We give it our highest recommendation.

The owner’s name is Pai and she is a lovely and friendly woman. Rooms are clean with good smelling sheets though it is a little run down (paint peeling from ceiling). Good wifi (worked on our website) and warm showers with low pressure.

Notes: We volunteered for a week at the dog sanctuary. This is actual work and we labored from 8am-5pm daily with an hour for lunch. All meals are provided (excellent vegan buffet for every meal) and you are provided with a shared room (up to three people per room). The dog volunteers share a house that has a porch, two bathrooms, and a lovely group of dogs. The work includes cleaning kennels, feeding, walking, bathing, and socializing dogs. The dog sanctuary is park of an elephant park so you around in very close proximity to elephants every day. The surrounding area is very beautiful. They had a secure place for us to park our motorcycles and our gear. This was an absolutely incredible week for us and we both cried when we left. I could have easily stayed here another week. The cost for the week is 5,000 Baht (US$140) per person – remember this includes room and board for seven nights.

DR HOUSE HOTEL
Khao Kho, Thailand

Website: http://www.drhouse117.com

Notes: If you booked in person it is 800 Baht; we booked through booking.com. Secure parking especially for motorcycles (around the side of the building) but also good for vans or camper cars. We didn’t try the wifi or shower. Shower was an electric on-demand water heater and looked new. Extremely clean and new. Friendly owner with very little English. Sign from the main highway but sign was not in English on the building and the maps.me and Google maps GPS are incorrect by about 50 or so meters – just continue along the road. The breakfast included eggs, bread, sausage, and some vegetables.

WHITE INN HOTEL

Notes: In the price list I noted that there were rooms starting at 600 Baht per night. The room was really big, very clean, and new. Good wifi and the shower was lovely though the water never got hot but good pressure. Quiet street and good, secure parking. We actually put our motorcycles where the laundry hangs and staff parks as it seemed more secure than the larger lot on site.
